A floorplan dashboard for Home Assistant

Draw your home, then control it from the plan

ArkViz is a Home Assistant dashboard drawn as a plan of your home. Your lights, thermostat, locks and sensors are on it where they really are, so you can find what you need right away.

What ArkViz does

  • Control it from the plan

Click a light to turn it on or off, or click a room to dim its lights and check its temperature.

  • Draw the plan in ArkViz

Getting a floorplan right is the hard part, so ArkViz has an editor built in. You don’t need a plan from another app.

  • Nice enough to leave on the wall

I wanted a dashboard designed for a smart home, so ArkViz looks like an architect’s drawing. It has a Day theme and a Night theme.

Install it in Home Assistant

ArkViz is free. You install it through Home Assistant’s Marketplace, or HACS on older versions, and sign in with your Home Assistant account. You won’t need an ArkViz account, and it connects only to your Home Assistant.

The plan and its rooms

Click a room to see everything in it, then turn its lights on or off or dim them. The Climate layer tints each room according to its temperature. If a leak sensor or smoke alarm is triggered, the room it’s in is highlighted and shows a message like “Leak detected”.

You can click this one too. Try a room.

The editor

Draw the walls, add doors, windows and stairs, and repeat for each floor. Then place your devices and link each one to Home Assistant.

I really wanted constraints and dimensions to feel good to use, so I tried hard to get them right. If you set a wall’s length, it keeps that length. If you move a wall, its rooms and doors move with it. If you think I missed the mark, I’d love to hear about it.

Day and Night

Day has dark walls and lines on a pale background, like a printed drawing. Night has pale walls and lines on a dark background, for a dim hallway. In both, a light that’s on has an orange glow.

Why I built it

Home Assistant has huge potential, but I had trouble getting its dashboards to work the way I wanted. That may just be me. I looked for a floorplan dashboard and didn’t find what I was after, so I built ArkViz for my own home. It’s free, and I’m happy to share it. I might add paid features someday, but I haven’t decided.

You’ll draw your home in a CAD-style editor, so it helps if you’re comfortable with drawing tools or happy to learn. If a plan isn’t how you think about your home, another dashboard may suit you better.

I’m one person working on this, so I won’t get to everything, but I’d love to hear your suggestions.
