About

About ArkViz

ArkViz is a floorplan dashboard for Home Assistant. You draw your home and place your devices on the plan, and ArkViz shows their state there.

What it does

  • Draw each floor to scale, with walls, doors, windows and stairs, in feet and inches or meters.
  • Place lights, switches, sensors and other devices where they are, and link each to its entity in Home Assistant.
  • See every floor as a plan, or the whole house in 3D, with each light shown on or off to match its real state.
  • Turn lights on and off, dim them, set scenes and change the thermostat from the dashboard.
  • See each room’s temperature, and alerts from leak sensors, smoke alarms and locks on the room they’re in.

Privacy

ArkViz runs from your Home Assistant. You won’t need an ArkViz account, and it loads nothing from the internet.

It can send two things, and both are off until an admin of your Home Assistant turns them on. It asks the first time an admin opens it, and declining is one button. Settings has both switches and the exact list of what each one sends, and anyone else with an account can opt out for themselves.

  • Error reports, processed by Sentry: an error’s type and message, where in the code it happened, the page and version of ArkViz, the browser and operating system, and a random ID for your home.
  • Usage metrics, processed by PostHog: once a day, a random ID for your home, the versions of ArkViz and Home Assistant, and how many floors, rooms and devices of each kind are on your plan. Also once a day, a random ID for each account that opens ArkViz.

Room, floor and device names, entity IDs, device states, your Home Assistant’s address, tokens and your plan aren’t sent. Any of these found in an error’s message are removed first, in your browser and again in Home Assistant.

Your browser doesn’t contact Sentry or PostHog. Home Assistant sends these itself, so requests reach them from your home’s public IP address, and they’re told not to store it. Turning a setting off stops sending and deletes its random IDs.

This website and the demo count page visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn’t use cookies. ArkViz in your Home Assistant doesn’t use it.

Requirements

  • Home Assistant 2024.7 or later.
  • A current web browser.
  • WebGL for the 3D view. Without it, the floor plans still work.

Who makes it

I’m one person building ArkViz for my own home, and I’m happy to share it for free. I won’t get to everything, but I’d love to hear your suggestions.
